Artist's Comments

Just finished this painting based on a very old thumbnail. Like so many of my paintings, I have no idea what's going on here - the best I can figure it is the dragonflies are warning the squirrel about something up ahead in his path, but what, I don't know. For some reason, instruments as boats just seems like a cool idea to me...

While I think the general color scheme over all is working pretty well, I'm a bit bothered by the isolated, heavy orange of the squirrel and boat on the left side of the picture. The dragonflies just don't balance him out as much as I'd hoped...

This is gorgeous, wonderful shading on this- it's so smooth (: The whole idea is really cute x3

oh so beautiful! now im sure that if you grey the squiril a little bit, not so much the colors of the trees, just a different shade of grey...that would definitely create the balance you're looking for i think.

Oh wow! That's so beautiful ^^ The instrument-boat is a great idea too. That was the first thing that caught my attention - it's sitting in a lute! Hehe.

This's beautiful work here. <3 The shading is amazing, and everything looks so detailed and flawless.
The shading on the instrument is especially beautiful. The color's very smooth, and it makes me admire it over and over.
Another thing that caught my eye was the ripples on the water around the instument. They're really well done- they look real.
Keep up the amazing work! 8D
Great to see new work from you! I actually like the mis-balance of the orange, since it creates a hierarchy of elements in the piece. The dragonflies have the color, which I think evens things out while preserving the hierarchy. As always, I love your colors, your sense of depth, your concept and sense of place! Great illustration!
That's really great! At first glance I thought it was actually coloured pencil but if you used acrylic then you're blending technique is wonderful.

I like the lovely atmospheric perspective too. It would look lovely animated with the different depths moving in parallax.
